The Canadian Military is a joke. True North reported that in 2022, their recruitment numbers fell by 35% as compared to the year prior. Canada is failing to meet its own internal goals for military recruitment and its international obligations to NATO. In order to remedy this, the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) have decided to, yet again, reduce their physical fitness standards and even allow non-citizen permanent residents to enlist. But simply reaching their recruitment goals is not the priority of the CAF. It is clear that their priority is to reach that goal by enlisting certain kinds of recruits.
Despite both recruitment and competency in the CAF falling, the same phenomenon which Harrold Robertson noted upon in his groundbreaking article ‘Complex Systems Won’t Survive the Competence Crisis’ can be found in the Canadian military.
“Any time meritocracy and diversity come into direct conflict, diversity must take priority.”
The CAF has numerous programs to reach its recruitment goals of “underrepresented groups” including visible minorities, women, indigenous people, or members of the LGBT community. More simply put, they want anyone who is not a straight white male.
According to True North, some of the programs designed to bring about an “inclusive environment” in the CAF include drag queen bingo events, training scenarios on how to deal with members holding right-wing beliefs, encouraging members to include their pronouns in their email blocks, and anti-white indoctrination sessions which recommend reading books such as ‘White Fragility’ by Robin DiAngelo. The CAF are regular participants in LGBT Pride month and even have introduced gender non-binary uniforms. Their accounts on social media are constantly raving about woke nonsense or shilling for sending even more Canadian resources to Ukraine.
Today, you couldn’t get me to fight for the CAF if you put a gun to my head. But there was a time when I was a lot more naïve than I am now.
